Laguz announces new EP 'Songs for Taliesin', culminating in final single 'Dawns Olaf'.
Laguz announces the release of their new EP Songs for Taliesin, a three-part work rooted in Welsh myth and bardic tradition, unfolding from ritual invocation to festival dance. The EP brings together the singles “I Taliesin” and “Marwnad yr Ehedydd,” and concludes with its final and defining chapter: “Dawns Olaf.”
Spanning approximately eleven minutes, Songs for Taliesin takes the form of a compact triptych—moving through invocation, lament, and dance. Drawing loosely on the legendary Welsh bard Taliesin, the EP explores the theme of transformation through a Welsh-cultural lens, while continuing the musical direction established on Laguz’s debut album A View from Down Below, further refining their balance between traditional material and contemporary expression.
Following the invocation of “I Taliesin” and the elegy that is “Marwnad yr Ehedydd,” the EP arrives at “Dawns Olaf.” As the final single, it serves as the release of the journey’s accumulated tension—a closing moment where introspection gives way to motion. Shaped as a festival dance with some jig-like qualities, its rhythmic drive brings a sense of lift and forward motion, transforming the EP’s earlier restraint into energy and movement.
Throughout Songs for Taliesin, Laguz combines acoustic strings, flutes, and percussion with subtle modern production, maintaining an organic core while allowing the sound to expand naturally. The result is an EP that moves from ritual and lament into celebration and dance.
With Songs for Taliesin, Laguz presents a concise but continuous musical arc—one that moves from calling, to mourning, to dance, tracing a path through myth toward transformation.
Songs for Taliesin will be available on all major streaming platforms upon release on April 3rd, 2026.
